A Decision-Making Framework for a Regret-Free Life

Everybody has different starting points in their journey.

Some are driven from a young age. They are able to focus and take action while their peers are drowning in distractions and comfort.

Others will get to the end of their lives filled with regret knowing they squandered their one attempt at this life.

Since you are reading this, you likely relate more to the second group.

The good news is, you are reading this

Until your dying breath, you are able to make decisions. To take action.

If there was a list written for you at birth—highlighting everything that you could accomplish with a combination of your talents, interests, and the right choices—how close are you to that version of you?

Every decision you’ve made up to now has been a vote for a version of you.

Who have you been voting for?

I know, I’m throwing off your reading flow but I want you to pause and really think about this.

If you continue making these decisions, where do you end up? What reality do you create?

You are welcome to kick yourself here if you are not in line with that person.

That’s what it took me to start making better decisions.

Don’t wallow in self-pity. Don’t berate yourself to the point of inaction. Just a swift kick in the ass to get moving.

Revisit this conversation often and use it to help steer your decision-making.

When Netflix is drawing you away from the project that could change your life. When video games are singing their siren song to keep you from the gym. When a grocery store sale tempts you to stock the cart full of discounted holiday candy instead of adhering to the diet that will help you regain your confidence.

This will help you make the hard decisions. The ones that result in short term pain to get you ahead.

Even with this framework, you may slip.

You may buy the discounted M&Ms. Cave and order that perfectly greasy pizza off Doordash. It’ll happen (unless you are a stronger person than me).

But you can’t allow that to derail the progress that you have made.

The further along you are, the harder it will be to realize the potential you were born with—that’s not an out. You are still voting. How close can you get?

With each small step, you’ll find purpose. That purpose leads to fulfillment through action.

Not sure what that feels like? I’ll help you.

What small step can you take now—right now—to move closer to the best version of you?

You may surprise yourself with all that you can accomplish.
