Everything is Made Up
Everything is made up.
I am not saying that the world around you is fake.
I have no way of knowing.
When I say everything is made up, I mean every rule and every limitation we have is made up.
The feeling of the keys activating with the pressure from my fingers, the slightly cool sensation of my metal Mac against my skin, the sensation of the wind blowing across my bare skin, and slight discomfort of my ass sinking further and further into the mattress as I write this are all very real sensations to me.
We thought human flight was impossible. We routinely go to space.
We thought running a four minute mile was impossible. We are down to 3:43.
The second, admittedly sounds less impressive but I dare you to try running a 6:00 mile.
Every social rule—whether it’s law or unspoken bathroom code—is made up. Still, don’t stand next to me at the urinal when we could have a gap.
Many of them have stood for a long time but will inevitably be changed as we have more information with which to make decisions.
We are inundated with information—endlessly told the right way to think.
Anybody can freely share their thoughts and ideas. This is a gift—and a curse.
We can share our experiments, our ideas, and our learnings for the collective good of society.
We are also free to criticize others for accomplishing something the wrong way or failing to accomplish something under the same pretense.
But it is foolish to approach life this way.
As long as you are willing to grow, your understanding of life will evolve as you gain more input through experiences.
Hard-lined stances will fade away as you gain empathy and compassion for others.
Which makes it even more foolish to limit yourself based on the rules others try to impose on you.
Because there is no right way.
There is no correct approach.
You must find the way that works for you.
